Child Carers First Aid

Usually over 2 days 9.00am to 4.30pm

Description
This course aims to train delegates to OFSTED and PFAA standards for delivering First Aid for Babies and Young Children.
On completion of the course, candidates will be able to recognise and deal with:
  • The Principles of First Aid
  • First Aid Legislation
  • Emergency Actions
  • Unconscious Casualties
  • Non Breathing Casualties
  • Choking Casualties
  • Anaphylaxis
  • A casualty whose heart has stopped
  • Asthma
  • Severe and Minor Bleeding
  • Trauma
  • Shock
  • Burns and Scalds
  • Poisoning
  • Seizures
  • Bone, Joint and Muscle Injuries
  • Effects of Temperature
  • Childhood Ailments and Medical Emergencies
  • Administrationof Medication and Record Keeping
  • Dressings and First Aid Kits
 
Delegates are required to be physically fit and have the aptitude and ability to cope with an intense course of study and practical activity.
Previous attendance on a First Aid course would be advantageous.

Suitability
This course is intended for nursery nurses or people in charge of, or working with, babies and young children.
Typical interest groups
Teachers, Welfare Assistants, Care Assistants, Midday Supervisors, Play Leaders/Assistants.

Qualification
The course will be assessed on a continual basis by the tutor and also by Peer Assessment
the resulting evidence can be used for NVQ purposes

Assessment in Early Years Care and Education.
Delegates will also receive a First Aid Certificate for Childminders which will be valid for 3 years

Maximum course size 12.
